Flag Day and Gelato

On June 14, 1777, John Adams spoke about the flag at a meeting of the Continental Congress in Philadelphia: “Resolved, that the flag of the thirteen United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the Union be thirteen stars, white on a blue field, representing a new constellation.”

There have since been 27 official versions of the flag, according to the Library of Congress. The last change was made on July 4, 1960, when Hawaii became the 50th state. The thirteen stripes are emblems of the thirteen British colonies that announced independence from Great Britain in 1776. The fifty stars represent the states in America.

Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the official “flag of the United States of America” with its popular nicknames such as:

– Stars and Stripes
– Old Glory
– The Star Spangled Banner
– The Red, White and Blue

Flag Day and Gelato

Flag Day also signals the beginning of summer and that means: It’s ice cream season, baby!

Recently, a dear friend introduced us to Nubocha Gelato. Wow. My sister and I just love it! Their Italian Vanilla is simply delicious.

It is a low-calorie, dairy-free silky vegan gelato with a creamy twist on a classic flavor. The ingredients are: spring water, allulose, cashew butter, and it contains less than 2% of inulin, glycerin, vanilla bean extract, salt, locust bean gum, xanthan gum.

Allulose is a sweetener with nearly zero calories found naturally in foods like raisins, figs, and maple syrup. It doesn’t even count as an added sugar because it registers so low on the glycemic index. It’s not metabolized by the body into blood glucose and is safe for sugar-free and low-sugar diets including diabetics.

Nubocha roasts and grinds all their own nuts to make the nut butters for their various flavors. So, for vanilla, they roast and grind cashews in Italy before sending the butter to the U.S. to make the gelato.

It’s pretty innovative that they use spring water as the “base” instead of a plant based milk. Vegan milks come with all their own ingredients and fillers, which they didn’t want to include in the product. The spring water preserves the integrity of the main ingredients. In this case, cashews and Madagascar vanilla.

The best part for us, besides being completely delicious – an entire. container. is. just. 300 calories! (or 120 per serving). Compare that to any other ice cream or gelato on the market!

Perfect for swim season! The pool is now officially OPEN!
