The Room Where It Happens (my kitchen)
“No one really knows how the game is played/
The art of the trade/
How the sausage gets made/
We just assume that it happens”
from Hamilton the Musical
A picture of my Boston Terrier “Oscar Goodman” posted on Facebook while he was hanging out in the pantry evoked some cute comments and questions about my Las Vegas kitchen… so I decided to share the whole enchilada here on Taste With The Eyes.
My house was built in 2018 on what, not so long ago, was a piece of dirt in the Mojave Desert. Now it is a wonderful thriving community called Inspirada, one of the top-rated master-planned communities in the country. As a bonus, Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area is an easy walk from my front door. And The Strip is a mere 21 minute drive away… It’s the best of all worlds.
Here’s Where The Sausage Gets Made
The very functional gourmet kitchen features a 48″ Wolf Range & Hood and 48″ Sub-Zero Refrigerator. Counter tops and waterfall edge on the island are Calacatta Quartz.
The informal great room features a 72″ rustic windmill fan. It’s a big open space with a television on the far side of the room. Down the hallway to the right is Le Bistrot Ataloré (a casual French dining room that seats up to 16 people).
“Well, I arranged the meeting/
I arranged the menu, the venue, the seating”
from Hamilton the Musical
The builder, Toll Brothers, offered hundreds of personalization options, the highest-quality building products, with environmentally sensitive building methods.
I designed the space with Le Chef in mind. It has professionally inspired appliances and loads of counter space with a laid-back desert vibe, comfortable and casual with just a touch of elegance. Lots of textures, patterns, plants, and neutral colors create a visual harmony.
There is plenty of light day and night, with elements that can either warm it up or cool it down.
The Sub-Zero extends freshness with refrigeration technology that controls temperature, optimizes humidity, and scrubs the air of impurities. It is astonishing how long fresh produce lasts in this refrigerator!
The chocolate leather loveseat in front of the windows is the perfect nook for reading cookbooks with a cup of coffee in the morning sun.
It is also meant to be a place for guests to relax and have an appetizer and a glass of wine to engage with, while I am cooking dinner.
The door on the right leads to the backyard pool and BBQ area.

This is so lovely! My oldest turned out to be a great cook and baker. She lives it and would be in heaven in your kitchen! Maybe some day we’ll be out that way. You could share stories and I know she would learn so much from you.
Hi Berta – Thank you. So neat to hear she is a great cook and baker! It would be wonderful to see you and meet her. And she can teach me some baking tricks. Definitely come to Vegas! I would love it! AOE
