The BLP Sandwich

Thick Smoky Bacon, Crisp Green Lettuce
Rosemary Balsamic Grilled Summerflame Yellow Peaches
Sharp Salty Bleu Cheese, Saffron Mayonnaise

Oh heavens no. I’m not trying to improve on the classic BLT sandwich. But…this week Food Network is featuring peaches and somehow BLP got stuck in my head. A cute play on BLT, no? I start to imagine other foods that might pair well with the summer peach. Rosemary, syrupy balsamic vinegar, black pepper, bleu cheese, saffron. And just like that the BLP Sandwich was born.

And it just so happens that my absolute favorite wine this summer is MacMurray Ranch Pinot Gris 2011 from the Russian River Valley in Somona. Damn, if this wine doesn’t taste like peaches. And baked apples and figs. Oh gosh, it is round and creamy and balanced and just plain luscious. Please try it with my BLP, sweet summer happiness will ensue.

The BLP Sandwich Recipe

Slice peaches on the thicker side so they don’t fall apart on the grill. Drizzle with olive oil, aged balsamic vinegar. Sprinkle with fresh chopped rosemary and fresh ground black pepper. Grill over high heat.

Grind a good pinch of saffron threads in a mortar with a pestle. Stir the saffron into mayonnaise.

To assemble the sandwich: Brush bread with olive oil and grill until toasty. Spread saffron mayonnaise on both sides of the bun. Place green leaf lettuce on the bottom half. Top with peaches, bleu cheese, bacon, and another piece of lettuce.

  1. Now that looks like one darn delicious sandwich – I would never have thought to use a peach in there. And with that blue cheese – oh heaven help me. The photos are gorgeous as usual.

    1. Hi Tammy – thanks for your comment. Oh, the glasses were a holiday gift from a colleague, sorry I don’t know where she got them. But clearly, she knows me! Love them.

      1. Just as well, my hubby might ring my neck if I purchase any more drinkware 😉 They are gorgeous though! 🙂 Thanks for the reply!

  2. Wow, what a fabulous summer sandwich. I love the transformation peaches undergo when grilled. The natural sugars caramelize, and they are lifted to another plane of wonderful. I want this sandwich. Thanks for a wonderful idea!
