New to my garden this year, with petals the color of a warm Texas sunset, is the Laura Bush Floribunda Rose. Generous clusters of dusky orange buds burst open into ruffled, cinnamon-orange blooms with yellow centers.
Jackson & Perkins Nursery representatives worked closely with Mrs. Bush to designate this beautiful rose the Laura Bush Rose. The rose is launched as part of the First Ladies Rose Series and it joins roses named for First Ladies: The apricot colored Nancy Reagan, the coral-pink-and-ivory Barbara Bush and the recently debuted, coral and orange Lady Bird Johnson.
I would like to take a moment to commemorate the U.S. men and women who have died in military service and to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day weekend.

What a great post Lori. I never knew there was a First Ladies Rose Series – of course what would a Canadian know about that. The Laura Bush rose is really gorgeous.
It would be very cool to take petals from each of the series and press them into a scrapbook page – great gift idea.
Great photo, Lori Lynn! I had no idea about the First Lady Rose Series either…. I wonder what rose I would choose for myself. What about you?
Hi Giz -that is a cool idea. I have about 30 rose bushes, and my latest focus in acquiring new ones, since all roses are beautiful, has been their namesakes. I will be posting the Diana, Princess of Wales rose soon. I got it at the same time I found Laura Bush and it just recently bloomed. YAY!
Hi Amy – well, the roses are new hybrids and since I love the color spring green, I think I would want them to hybridize a green and cream floribunda rose with a pale yellow center for me, maybe one day…
We took so many pictures of roses while in California, everywhere we turned we saw roses in bloom, just as beautiful as yours!
