Sunken City Supper Club
Summer Soirée

The Sunken City Supper Club is a fresh, local and secret place to seasonally mingle with friends and neighbors – to enjoy the camaraderie, great food, wine, and the awesome intimate jazz standards performed by local musicians Barry Anthony and Bill Ryan. We hold one event per season, and the menu always reflects seasonal ingredients. Our Sunken City Supper Club events feature a five course fixed menu plus our signature amuse bouche and unique sherry courses.

Supper Clubbers Sally & Al, with a great view!

The 24 guests are emailed the menu in advance so they can bring wines to complement the dinner. The Sunken City Supper Club is a “moveable feast” – the location varies. The Summer Soirée was held at the beautiful home of our friends Gina & Van overlooking the ocean in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. The summer menu features many seasonal summertime ingredients typically served along the Mediterranean Sea. The table setting, decor, and colors enhanced the Mediterranean theme.

We are especially proud of this recent dinner, as we have now completed a full year’s cycle of seasonal events:

Over the year we have learned how to run a “restaurant” out of a home kitchen, held many experimental test kitchen dinners, honed our timing skills, gained a new appreciation for that second refrigerator, made new foodie friends, and had a blast! We look forward to another year of Sunken City Supper Club seasonal events!

Passover Menu 2010

Matzoh & Karpas

Karpas – A green vegetable such as parsley, a springtime crop representative of rebirth and redemption is dipped in salt water.  The salt water reminds us of the tears our ancestors shed as slaves in Egypt.

Matzoh – We eat matzoh on Passover to remind us that our ancestors left Egypt in such haste, they could not wait for the bread to rise. Additionally, matzoh is the “bread of affliction” – the food of slavery, it reminds us to be humble and to appreciate our freedoms.

OUR SEDER

My brother, Don, is the leader. Everyone participates. We read from the Haggadah. We recite the blessings. We tell the story of the Exodus from Egypt. My nephew, Stone, 7, asks The Four Questions. We sing. We drink. We eat. We laugh. We get teary-eyed. Our story is being retold all over the world on this day.

Here I share our Passover menu and some scenes from the Seder along with the significance of each ritual. And new this year: Come take a peek into our Seder. Watch a 45 second video clip of one of our Seder songs!

Newport Beach Wedding

Congratulations David & Molly!

Molly and I met during her freshman year in college when she joined Alpha Phi Sorority, where I was the Chapter Advisor. After her graduation she lived in Ireland for a year, when she returned to Long Beach, she joined our Advisory Board. Together we advised, and guided, and  brain-stormed…we had such fun bouncing ideas off each other! And although I am almost a quarter-century older than her, we became friends, in addition to being “sisters.” This past Saturday, it was my absolute pleasure, honor and delight to attend Molly & Dave’s wedding!

Here I share photos from Molly and Dave’s Newport Beach wedding. Molly’s flair, her attention to detail, and her clean-crisp style, with accents of daffodils and sand dollars made for an original, breathtaking, and personalized reception at the lovely home of Dave’s parents.
